Hello Boss babes and Bosses out there! In this video, I am going to share with you the roadmap on how to become a
successful Social Media Manager this 2022. This will be part two, because part one is this. I shared there the difference in the tasks if you are an engager, manager or marketer. And I also shared there some of
the tasks that I do for my clients when they have hired me as an
engager or marketer or manager.
So, I would highly recommend
to check out this video first before you are going to
proceed to this video because that is more of an introduction
and this one is a more detailed one. So, you will understand this video better
if you have watched this one here. Okay? I have noticed this just now. It doesn't want to flatten. So, just don't mind my baby hairs here. Let's proceed. The first thing that you really need to do if
you want to become a Social Media Manager is to do a research first. Get educated first. You might be thinking
"What are the things should I research, Sui?" Let's say, you will have to do three types of research if you want to become a
Social Media Manager. It would be hard to build a business or even just to go to work without you knowing what
work you should be doing. You will become more effective in your job if you know your goal, if you know your responsibilities
on that specific project or work. So, the first thing that you need to research is to know what is social media management and marketing all about.
What are the processes? What are the tasks? What are the strategies that they are
implementing in their clients' businesses? Basically, all about social media
management and marketing. You must really know what you get yourself into,
what will be your tasks, what are the things you should and should not implement. Good thing, if you have already
subscribed to this channel, that means you are already
doing the first step. Kidding. "Subscribing in the channel as the first step." What I mean here, you watching this kind
of videos right now, that means you are already researching about social media management, the tasks of a Social Media Manager, etc. So, that is already a good point. The next research that you would do
is to do a competitive research.
So, what is a competitive research? Basically, you would research those
who have the same service as yours. You are going to check
out their website, their rates, their content. Check what content they publish every week. See what is working and what is not. You can also see there the rates and packages
that they are offering to the clients. So, it would be easier for you
now to see what is the gap, what do the market needs that have not yet been
fully attended by other Social Media Managers. You would then determine
your unique selling point.
Maybe you are saying, "What is a
unique selling point all about, Sui?" A unique selling point is your edge compared
to other Social Media Managers. To be honest, I would be so brutally honest, today, the market is saturated. But there is no other best time to
start doing what you love, but today. Right now. Today is the best start. In the coming years, it will become oversaturated. So, it is better to start now. It is better to start researching. It is better to start taking action on what you want
to achieve in your career when it comes to freelancing. During the competitive research,
you will see how many people are getting into this kind of niche,
into this kind of service. But don't get overwhelmed. The point here is to have a unique selling
point that not most people are implementing. Maybe you are asking, "What are the
samples of unique selling point, Sui?" If you are a Social Media Manager, there are a lot of other services that you can provide
to your clients aside from social media management.
It is better to have a combo offer. So, maybe you are now confused. "What unique service can I offer to the client
aside from social media management, that is still a good combination
as a Social Media Manager?" For example, aside from
social media management, you also know how to integrate chatbots
into the social media accounts of clients. So, that would be a good
unique selling point. And another one is maybe you know how to do Facebook ads. So, that would be a great combination
if you are a Social Media Manager. Maybe you also know a little bit
about website SEO. So, that would be a good
combination as well. Or maybe you know how to video edit, that would be a good combination
as a Social Media Manager.
Those little bits of things
that you know how to do that is not a task of a Social Media Manager but you know how to do that, that could be a good
unique selling point for you. The third thing that you need
to do is market research. This is what I have talked
about in this video here. First, you have to have a
target niche and a target client. So, if you haven't watched that, watch this first because I explained there in detail
why you need a niche and a target client. After doing all the researches
that I have said, now, the second step would be
building out your profile. It is really hard to build your profile
if you don't know what is social media all about, your unique selling point, the services you will offer to the client, and your target market. It is hard for you to build your online presence
if those things are not clear to you. So, make sure that you have really done all
the three types of research.
One is all about social media
management and marketing, you must know those things, at least
just the basics for you to have an idea. The second one is the competitive research
and then the market research. Our second step is to
build an online presence. This will be your portfolio. This is the link to the sample work
that you will show to the client. Your profile, your portfolio, and the likes. So, if you are a beginner and you still
don't know how to create a portfolio, if you still don't have any experience, if no one hires you yet, check out this video here.
I have shared there five steps on how to build your online portfolio aside from getting an internship project. The third step is to create a process. This is the time where you visualize
the flow once you onboard a client. Are your rates and package offer all ready? Is your invoice template ready? How about your contract template? Have you already prepared the
bank details that you would provide? Do you already know what to say
during the discovery call? You have to create your own process that is easier for you and your client to follow. This is the time you would lay out
what to send and what details to ask to them, the kit that you would give as you onboard them, the invoice date, the payment process. So, this is a one-time task.
Once you have prepared all these, you will just follow this process
to all the clients that you would sign. So, it is easier. It is a one-time big task, to be honest. Because once you laid out all these,
it is all done. You will just implement it for all the clients. And this is also the part where
you have to be patient with yourself. Because it is not in just one-time big time,
everything you have prepared will be perfect. In my journey, from time to time, I am revising my process like, "Oh, this one easier
instead of me sending an invoice here and there." Something like that. I am always revising my flow
and processes in my business. So, just be patient. If you think, "Oh, this one is such a hassle." So, change it next time. Something like that. I would like you to be so patient with
yourself while you are still learning.
So, from time to time, you are always evolving. Don't be afraid. If you need to change something,
just change it. If you feel like you need it, if you feel like you will improve
better if you would change it, just go do it. And just learn as you go. I think that is also my mantra. I am just doing things that I am not even
so sure if I am doing it the right way. If I see that there is a need to improve,
let's just improve it next time. In this part, there is a lot to prepare
like the contract. Especially, the contract, the invoice, the rates and the packages that you are going to offer to your client.
From time to time, you would revise things. From time to time, you would add something. So, just be patient. That is all. While you are building your processes, you are trying to figure out
which process is better, you are trying to figure out what to
send and what to ask from the client, you are now going to slowly market your services through your social media platforms. Again, it is up to you on which social
media platforms you would show up on. If you are still starting, it is not necessary that
you show up on all social media platforms. Even just one, maybe LinkedIn. You maximize the LinkedIn account. I would highly recommend you
to check out these two videos here if you haven't maximized it,
if you haven't optimized your LinkedIn account yet, try to check out these two
videos here by Cenry Molinos. She shared a lot of things on how you are going to show up, how you are going to optimize your account so that you can attract more
prospective clients in that platform.
Maybe you are also asking, "How am
I going to show up there, Sui?" Always provide content that
would benefit your target clients. So, when they can see that you are an expert
to something that could help their business, there is really a big chance that
they are going to message you and ask you to help them manage their
social media accounts for their business. If you really want super detailed advice on the type of
content to put out on your social media accounts for you to really show up consistently, check out these videos here because I shared there in detail the kind of content that
you can share to your social media accounts for you to attract clients. When you are now marketing
your business to other people, many of them would inquire, many of them would see your
sample works, your content posts, etc.
If you have already landed a client, the next step is to deliver
your services to them. This is one thing that you have to keep in mind
when you are doing projects for your clients. Always prioritize the goal of your client. Make sure that you set KPI to follow. What I mean by KPI is that basically, this is the measurement to see if
you are doing good in the work that you do, if you reach the engagement rate
that the client expects, and if you were able to reach the
level of growth the client expects.
Things like that. If it is not achieved, you can always adjust your strategy. And always remind your client that this is not
a real-quick from zero to one million kind of strategy. This is more on getting solid and true followers of their brand and not just the fake accounts that follow and engage. So, after delivering the agreed services
to render to the client, now is the time to make sure
that you retain the client. The first advice that I could give so that
the client would want to work with you long-term, make sure that your work is always top quality. Because we tend to do mediocre work especially if we feel complacent that
the client is just okay with our output. So, just make sure that all
the output is always in quality. The second one that I can advise is to make sure to have detailed reporting when it comes to your work. The more detailed it is, the more you will see the progress and the next step that you can implement. The third thing is to give them discounts. This is like when they can refer other clients to work with you, give them discounts or commission for that.
Or maybe it is your anniversary, you have worked together for a year. So for that month, you can give them discounts. Those simple little things. For sure, the client would appreciate that. Especially if you would give them gifts. Even just virtual gifts like a card for Starbucks
where they can get a discount. Or you will get them one
cup of coffee from Starbucks. Things like that. Those kinds of little gifts, for sure, they would appreciate it. So, hopefully, the steps that I have shared have helped you have a clearer understanding of the things you would do if you want to become a successful
Social Media Manager this 2022. If yes, it helps, don't forget to
